campaign season

With so much time being dedicated in the media to the currently underway Republican primaries, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the campaigns that really matter. No, I'm not talking Mitt and Newt - I'm talking Chanel and Valentino. Yes, that's right - the spring 2012 fashion ad campaigns!

I freely admit that when it comes to fashion magazines, I pay just as much attention to the ads as I do the regular content. I think in general that is true of many fashion magazine consumers. Since designers book the top models and the top photographers for their campaigns, the results are often incredibly beautiful.

Let's start with Jil Sander, one of my favorite spring 2012 campaigns so far. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre and deliciously Hitchcockian (the broken window is absolutely genius), Jil Sander's spring 2012 campaign stars luminous beauties Natasha Poly and Daria Strokous. The collection was one of my favorites from the spring shows, and this campaign perfectly captures its tailored, feminine '50s vibe.
