Not even fashion can ignore presidential politics.
With the 2012 presidential campaign officially upon us (it's going to be a long year...), a veritable who's-who of American fashion designers have thrown their support behind incumbent President Barack Obama. Orchestrated largely by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, arguably the most powerful person in the entire fashion industry and an ardent supporter of President Obama (she's one of an elite group of bundlers who have raised $500,000+ for Obama's reelection bid), the Runway to Win campaign initiative kicks off this Thursday.
Modeled after the 2008 Runway to Change initiative, Runway to Win will sell t-shirts, scarves, tote bags and wristlets from participating designers such as Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Narciso Rodriguez, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Rag & Bone, Rachel Roy and Tracy Reese. (Many of them have already dressed First Lady Michelle Obama, and expect to see her wearing more of their designs on the campaign trail.) All proceeds from sales will benefit the Obama Victory Fund.
The Runway to Win collection debuts this Thursday at www.runwaytowin.com.
