alexander wang f/w 2012
There were lots of fantastic shows this weekend, but none of them were more hyped than Alexander Wang. As Amy O'Dell wrote for The Cut, "The show has become such a frenzied fuss that getting a seat is about as great as getting a ticket to the Willy Wonka factory," and it seems that those who did get seats this year had a difficult time seeing the collection. If they hadn't been left in the dark, they would have seen that despite the theatrics (turtlenecks covering the face, dramatically pulled down during the finale), Wang presented a collection filled with some really cool pieces. Working with the palette of the season - black and white - with a little oxblood thrown in for good measure, Wang's vision for fall includes shiny leather trousers, puffer vests and coats, draped panel dresses, some fringe, and accessories guaranteed to find themselves on every fashion girl's fall wish list. The new Pelican bag, available in mini and maxi versions in vachetta leather, is particularly wonderful for its elegant structured silhouette. Wang also scored the casting coup of the season with a parade of super models including Natasha Poly, Karolina Kurkova, Shalom Harlow, Carmen Kass and Gisele. Overall, this collection stepped out of Wang's uber downtown wheelhouse and dipped a toe in the pool of uptown polish without sacrificing an ounce of his trademark cool.
