something pretty - valentino for nycb

I am working my tail off on a major deadline, so until I have the time to post my thoughts on all the spring collections, enjoy these gorgeous shots of the exquisite costumes Valentino designed for New York City Ballet. Pure fashion fantasy, aren't they?

tuesday tunes: ride by lana del rey

Despite what the the haters say, I adore Lana Del Rey. Her voice is incredible, and I find her retro-tinged, atmospheric, bluesy brand of pop music entrancing. Her music harkens back to a different era, but at the same time it's thoroughly modern. And she is a totally stylish chick. On November 13, Del Rey is releasing Born to Die: The Paradise Edition, a double album that includes "Video Games," "Born to Die," "Blue Jeans," "National Anthem" and eight new songs, including "Blue Velvet" (the song from the Lana-starring, David Lynch-inspired H&M campaign video) and the new single, "Ride." Check out "Ride" above and pre-order the album on iTunes here.

kate spade for paperless post

Let's face it - we live in a world where you're more likely to get invited to an event via Facebook than a pretty letterpress printed invitation. For design junkies and paper nerds like me, that's a sad, sad thing. But luckily there's Paperless Press. As their vision statement says, they know that "communication is an extension of personal style: how you say something is often as important as what’s being said." Paperless Press let's you send evites that don't suck or get lost in a sea of FB notifications. And now they've teamed up with Kate Spade New York, making it possible to send beautifully designed digital invitations and notes decked out in the preppy chic brand's signature stripes, dots, and prints. Check out the full collection and learn more about Paperless Press here.

Madewell Letterman Sweater-Jacket, $158 at Madewell

There's something about fall - it always feels like the perfect time to add to my wardrobe. It's a sartorial reflex caused by years and years of back to school shopping (blank notebooks and unsharpened No. 2 pencils were just as exciting to me as the outfit I picked out for the first day of class), so you can imagine how happy I was to spend all day yesterday catching up and shopping with my friend Alison, the super fab chick behind Viva la Diva Events. Five stores and one Strawberry Basil Limonata (yum!) later, my closet has some lovely new additions. My absolute favorite acquisition, and the piece I know I will wear constantly this fall, is Madewell's Letterman Sweater-Jacket. It's just begging to be worn to a football game on a crisp autumn day, embellished with button pins and a varsity letter. See, I told you I was nostalgic about back to school shopping...

watch this: go behind the scenes at nyfw with dvf and google glass

So those crazy, futuristic glasses the models were wearing on the spring 2013 Diane von Furstenberg runway? Yeah, those are the Google Glass, Google's augmented reality, heads-up display glasses prototype. Von Furstenberg partnered with Google to record her fashion week experience with the glasses. The designer, her production team, and several of the models in the show sported the gadget on the runway and backstage, and the footage resulted in the first ever film made with the device. It's pretty cool, not only because it shows what Google Glass can do, but because von Furstenberg is one seriously amazing woman. Watch the video below to go backstage at her spring show and hear her talk about her empowering, inspiring philosophy on life and fashion.
